A Keypad Door, A Spare Key My Mother Found, And A Family That Called Every Boundary Dramatic 2

I was not disciplined. The intrusion was theirs, documented and undeniable. But I moved out within the month, into an apartment none of them have the address to, with a lock that has no spare.

Marisol did not get the tuition. There was never a savings account. She had photographed a page thinking it was a balance and it was a case number, and she has never once apologised, only asked, through our mother, whether I could make the review go away. I cannot, and I would not.

My father wrote to me in the spring. One honest paragraph in four pages. I answered the paragraph.

I speak to my mother on Sundays now, briefly, about nothing.

They spent my whole life treating every locked door as an insult to the family, certain I was hoarding something they were owed. I was not hoarding money. I was holding a line, the way my work required and the way a person is allowed to in his own life. The night they finally broke it open, they found no account inside, only proof that the boundary had always been real, and that I had never once been the dramatic one.
