When I first organized my kitchen, I assumed everything belonged on the countertops. It seemed convenient—if I needed something, it was right there. But before long, my counters became cluttered, my kitchen looked chaotic, and some foods were even spoiling faster. If you want a cleaner, more organized kitchen, start by moving these 10 items.
1. Bread and 2. Knives: Bread can dry out or develop mold depending on the temperature and humidity. Store it in a bread box, pantry, or freezer. Knife blocks also take up valuable counter space and can collect crumbs and grease. Consider a magnetic wall strip or a designated drawer instead.
3. Small Appliances: Toasters, mixers, air fryers, and similar appliances don’t need to occupy your counters if you rarely use them. Store them in a cabinet or pantry. Keep only appliances you use every day, such as a coffee maker, within easy reach.
4. Easily Spoiled Produce and 5. Spices: Some fruits and vegetables don’t benefit from sitting on the counter. Potatoes can sprout in light, while avocados may ripen too quickly. Store appropriate produce in a cool, dark place. Spices should also be kept away from heat and sunlight to preserve their flavor.
