As a teenager, I dreamed of playing guitar, but my family had very little money.
Every day after school, I stopped at a small music store just to look at one guitar in the window.
I would imagine myself holding it on stage, playing songs while people cheered.
At home, I often told my father about this dream, hoping he would understand.
My father never promised anything or discouraged me either.
He simply listened in silence, nodding calmly before walking away.
At the time, I didn’t understand silence and mistook it for indifference.
I believed my dream was too big for someone like me to achieve.
One day, I came home upset because my friends had started taking guitar lessons.
I felt left behind and complained loudly that life was unfair.
My father did not respond with words, only a quiet nod.
His silence made me feel even smaller and more forgotten.
A few days later, I came home and stopped in shock at my bedroom door.
There, sitting on my bed, was a worn second-hand guitar waiting for me.
It was not new or shiny, but it felt priceless in that moment.
Beside it was a simple handwritten note that changed everything I believed about my father.
The note read: “Dreams take time. Start here.”
I realized then that everything I had misunderstood was about to reveal a deeper truth.
I had no idea that this silent gift would completely change how I saw my father forever.
And what I would later learn about how he got that guitar would stay with me for life.
