Two weeks later, a large package arrived while she was out. Curious, I carried it inside and opened it.
The box was filled with certificates, awards, leadership recognitions, journals, and letters from different stages of her life. As I sorted through them, I discovered accomplishments I had never heard about. She had led student organizations, earned academic honors, and written ambitious plans for her future. Tucked among the papers was a handwritten note. In it, she explained that becoming a stay-at-home mother had never been a surrender of her dreams. It had been a conscious choice made out of love for our family.
The more I read, the more ashamed I felt. I had reduced an extraordinary woman to a single role and forgotten the person she had been long before she became my wife.
