At 77, My Son Uninvited Me From Dinner, So Before Dawn I Took Back Everything 2

Wesley quietly asked if I had ever loved him without the money.

I told him yes, and that was exactly why I had allowed this to continue for far too long.

I asked them both to leave and told my son he could return only when he no longer needed something from me.

As they walked outside, neither of them noticed a small blue car pulling into my driveway.

My granddaughter stepped out carrying her backpack while her teacher followed behind her through the rain.

A message appeared on my phone only seconds later.

“Grandma, Mom said you ruined everything. Can I come inside?”

I opened the front door before she could send another message.

She ran into my arms while her parents watched from the driveway without saying a word.

At that moment, I realized protecting my granddaughter mattered far more than protecting the feelings of two adults who had confused my kindness with obligation.

For the first time in years, I finally chose peace over guilt, and that decision gave both of us a place where we truly belonged.
