The next morning, my son walked through the front door smiling, tired from camping, and ready to share stories about the trip.
Before he could even finish saying hello, I hugged him tightly.
He laughed and asked why I was acting so emotional.
I simply told him I was happy he was home.
I never explained what happened that night.
Some moments don’t need answers.
Maybe it was a dream, maybe it was my imagination, or maybe it was simply a father’s heart missing someone he loved.
But the experience reminded me that the smallest everyday moments are often the ones we value most later.
A child’s voice, a late-night request, or a simple conversation can seem ordinary while it is happening.
Years later, those same moments can become the memories we would do anything to experience again.
That night taught me to pay attention to the little things.
Because the voices we hear every day are often the ones we miss the most when they become memories.
