The Letter She Hid

When my twin sister Clara died, everyone said I was the only person who could understand her husband’s pain. Michael became part of my life slowly, visiting every Sunday and asking me to share memories of the sister he lost.

Two years later, he asked me to marry him. I knew my children thought it was wrong, but I convinced myself Clara would want me to help the man she loved. One week after our wedding, everything changed.

A stranger arrived at my door carrying a wooden box that Clara had left behind. Inside was her wedding ring and a note with a warning that made my hands shake: “Evelyn, under no circumstances trust Michael.”
