Locked Room Trap 2

I had a spare key taped behind the headboard. I slipped into the hallway, called my sister Mia, and said, “I need you. Now. Bring James. And the police.”
Ten minutes later, sirens wailed outside. Collins opened the door with a shaky smile. “Officers, is there a problem?”
I stepped out. “Yes. I’ve been locked in a room, against my will. This,” I said, holding up the contract, “is proof.”

Jenna’s face drained of color. “That was a misunderstanding. She’s recovering!”
The officer turned to me. “Would you like to leave with your sister tonight?”
“Yes,” I said firmly. “And I’m pressing charges.”

Six weeks later, I filed for divorce. James, my sister’s husband and a lawyer, filed a brutal counterclaim with the contract, texts, call logs, and my ER report.
Collins lost everything. He was let go from his job. Jenna’s son’s name was the only one on the lease — eviction notices followed.
They thought locking me in would control me. Instead, it set me free. I learned that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is walk away — and make sure they never forget why.
