Three Irishmen and three Scots travel together by train to attend a conference. At the station,
the Irishmen each buy individual tickets, while the Scots surprisingly purchase only one ticket between them. Curious, the Irishmen question how three people plan to travel on a single ticket. The Scots confidently tell them to wait and see. Once on board, the Scots squeeze into a train bathroom and close the door, leaving the Irishmen confused but watching closely.
When the ticket inspector arrives, he knocks on the bathroom door and asks for the ticket. A single hand extends from inside with one ticket, which the inspector validates before moving on. The clever trick impresses the Irishmen, who decide to imitate the strategy on the return journey, believing they have learned an efficient way to save money. They purchase only one ticket for themselves, expecting the same result to work in their favor.
However, when the return trip begins, the Scots do not buy any ticket at all. This surprises the Irishmen, who assume the Scots are simply being even more clever. On boarding the train, the Irishmen hide inside one bathroom, while the Scots occupy another nearby. Shortly after departure, one of the Scots leaves his compartment, walks to the Irishmen’s bathroom, and knocks on the door. When the Irishmen open it slightly, he calmly asks, “Ticket, please,” revealing that the Scots had reversed the original trick and turned the situation against them.
In a second humorous tale, three men—a Scotsman, an Englishman, and an Irishman—encounter a genie who grants each of them one wish. The Scotsman asks for all oceans to be filled with fish so his fishing legacy continues forever, and the wish is granted. The Englishman requests a massive protective wall around England, which the genie also creates. When asked, the genie explains that the wall is extremely high, thick, and prevents anything from entering or leaving. The Irishman, hearing this, asks for the wall to be filled with water, turning the Englishman’s protective barrier into something completely unexpected.
